405 In Service

A Vistar 405 system (IM405) was fitted to a US Delta force patrol boat in 1988. This led to a further five systems for US Navy Seals patrol craft in 1990. These were fitted with Thorn LITE thermal imagers and 135mm Vistar Vega Image intensifiers.

Seven Vistar 405 systems (MEOSS) were fitted to HM Customs cutters in 1993. These were fitted with Marconi TIVS thermal imagers and 135mm Vistar Vega Image intensifiers. Vistar has an ongoing contract servicing these systems. Five were re-ftted with new thermal imagers and daylight cameras in 2003.

Two Vistar 405 systems (IM405/1) were installed on the Storbaelt Bridge in 1993. These were fitted with 18mm image intensifiers and daylight cameras. Three more were fitted in 1994, this time using Marconi TIVS thermal imagers and daylight cameras. The tracking heads and sensor housings are internally heated allowing the 405 to function in the extreme cold.

HMCC Sentinel

HMCC Sentinel. The largest of seven UK Customs patrol craft originally fitted with MEOSS systems. Six of these craft are being decomissioned and replaced with four new vessels. The Vistar systems have been upgraded and transferred. Sentinel is not one of them. She remains in service for the time being.
