Going Digital
By far the biggest project that Vistar has undertaken since the
millenium has been the development of fully digital systems.
Using a
computer processor as the hub of the system to control the tracking
head, cameras and sensors, video, gyroscopes, inputs and outputs to the
other system components and auxiliary connections. In fact everything
including the wash pump is computer controlled.
Data (position, heading,
time, date, etc.) can now be overlaid directly on the picture and
recorded
to provide evidence. Software programmes are contained on
interchangeable memory cards so programming upgrades can be carried out
locally or off-site.
The Vistar 350 system was developed
from scratch to use this technology.

Also
in development is a low cost moving navigation camera intended for
use where IMO Regulations are not mandatory. This will carry an
intensified camera and controls similar to the 172.
